매직트리하우스 #1 줄거리 영어 단어구문정리 문장해석

 

 [매직문장]은 매직트리하우스를 하루 한 챕터씩 소리내어 읽었던 주요 문장들을 머리 속에서 구체화시키는 작업입니다. 시간이 날 때마다 한번씩 열어서 읽어보고, 입에 익숙해지도록 반복해서 읽어보고 외워봅니다. 정확하고 좋은 영어문장을 자꾸 소리내어 읽어보고, 외워두어야 익숙해져서 영어를 써야 하는 상황에서 그 표현을 쓸 수 있습니다. 매일 하루 영어공부를 마감하면서 한번이라도 읽고 녹음하면 훨씬 더 효과가 있습니다. 매일 5분이 모이고 모여 큰 힘을 발휘하는 날이 분명히 올 것입니다. 

 

길은 누구에게나 열려있지만

아무나 그 길을 가는 것은 아니다! 

 

매직문장 1권-1 Into the woods

• This better be good.
• I’ve never seen it before.
• He pushed his glasses into place.
• We don't know  who it belongs to.

 

 

*Oh,brother.(1-1/1p)  

아이구, 깜짝이야, 지겨워, 맙소사…

속어로 놀람, 혐오, 실망등을 나타내는 표현

 

*pretend stuff 가짜의 것, 상상적인 것

Annie loved pretend stuff.

Jack likes real things.(1-1/1p)  

 

+) pretend cake 가짜 케익

+) pretend illness 꾀병

+) pretend ignorance 시치미떼다

+) Play at "let's pretend" 흉내내기 놀이를 하다

+) Don't pretend ignorance. 시치미떼지마! 

 

*groan (고통 짜증으로) 신음[끙 하는]소리를 내다, 신음

-If you groan, you make a long, low sound because you are in pain, or because you are upset or unhappy about something.

Jack groaned.(1-1/2p)  

 

잭이 자주 내는 소리-groan 입니다. 앞으로 자주 보게 될 단어에요. 

 

*push one’s glasses into place 안경을 제자리로 올리다

He pushed his glasses into place.(1-1/5p) 

 

‘안경을 고쳐쓰다’로 해석했어요. 1권에서는 생소하지만 잭이 안경을 쓰고 있어서 매권마다 나와서 낭독하다보면 입에서 절로 나오는 문장입니다. 

 

*had better (~하는 것이) 좋을 것이다(꼭 그래야 함을 뜻함) 

-advisability with threat of bad result

이거 하지 않으면 큰일이 생길거다’라는 '강한 경고'의 뜻입니다. 일반적으로 had better라는 표현을 주의해서 사용해요.   

회화상에서는 had가 생략되는 경우가 많습니다.  

 

This better be good.(1-1/2p)  

이번엔 좋아야 할거야, 별거 없기만 해 봐라, 두고보자 

 

+) You had better be on time, or we will leave without you. 

+) You had better be studying until then, OK? 

 

상상놀이를 즐기는 애니가 지겨운 잭은 '너 이번에 안좋으면, 큰일 날줄 알아.' 라고 말하거 같쥬~ 현실남매 모습을 보여줘요. 

 

*all the way 내내, 시종

The ladder went all the way up to the top of the tree.(1-1/3p)   

 

We don't know who it belongs to.(1-1/3p)    

We don't know + it belongs to whom.

= We don't know whom it belongs to. 

= We don't know who it belongs to.

누구건지 모르겠어, 주인이 누군지 모르겠어

 

who는 관계대명사고, 전치사 to 다음엔 목적격이 오죠.(이런 문법용어 몰라도 되고요,  눈으로 보고 입으로 익혀주세요) who/whom 로 쓸 수 있어요.

 

관계절이 궁금하면 아래 강의를 차례로 살펴보세요. 머리로 한번 이해하고 입으로 연습합니다. 한번에 완벽하게 이해하려 하지마시고, 이해가 잘 되지 않으면 '그렇구나' 하고 넘어가시고 다음에 반복해서 또 보세요. 영어는 양과 질을 늘려가다보면 이해의 폭이 넓어집니다.

*poke out 쑥 내밀다, 비어져 나오다 

Annie poked her head out of the tree house window.(1-1/5p)  

 

[매직문장] 1권-2 The monster

• Sure enough.
• Jack set down his backpack and grabbed the book from her.
• He couldn't help himself
• But even as he said this, Jack open the dinosaur book to where the bookmark was.
• The wind picked up.
• Sunlight slanted through the window.
• Jack squeezed his eyes shut.
• We are not supposed to be here.
• Annie pointed in the other direction. 
• We’re not supposed to be up here. 
• He turned to the page with the bookmark. 
• No, we better not.  We don’t know who these books belong to. 
• He held on to Annie.

 

*Sure enough.(1-2/7p) 

아니나 다를까, 틀림없이, 과연

 +) Sure enough, the plane was three hours late.

짧고 임펙트있는 Sure enough! 

 

*hold up a book 책을 집어 들다.

She held up a book with a castle on the cover.(1-2/7p) 

She held up a book about dinosaurs.(1-2/8p) 

 

*stick out (of sth)  (~에서) (툭) 튀어나오다, 밖으로 빠져나오다 

*stick out 눈에 띄다 [잘 보이다]

He noticed bookmarks were sticking out (of many of them).(1-2/7p) 

A blue silk bookmark was sticking out (of it).(1-2/8p) 

 

앞으로도 계속해서 나오는 구문이라 익숙해지실 거에요. 

 

*Pteranodon 프테라노돈, 익수룡, 익룡  

사전에서 발음을 꼭 확인하고 낭독주세요.

 

*pick up 속력을 내다, 더하다 

-to become better; to improve 

The wind picked up.(1-2/11p) 

바람이 거세졌다. 바람이 더 세게 불었다.

 

+) When the wind started to pick up, we realized that a storm was coming.

 

[매직문장] 1권-3 Where is here?

• Maybe the book can tell us.
• None of this can be real.
• ‘Wow, I wish I could see a Pteranodon for real,'
• They couldn’t have landed in a time 65 million years ago.
• There was a winding stream.
• I don't know where we are.
• His giant wings were spread out on either side of him.
• The world outside and the world in the picture, they were exactly the same. 
• The Pteranodon was soaring through the sky. 
• The creature coasted to a stop, and stood very still. 
• His giant wings were spread out on either side of him. 
• You’re nuts. 
• Yeah, I can tell. 
• Annie started down the rope ladder.
• Annie dropped to the ground. 
• She stepped boldly up to the ancient creature.

 

*look down 내려다보다

*look back 뒤돌아보다

*look up 올려다보다[쳐다보다]

 

He looked down at the picture in the book.(1-3/13p)

Jack looked down at the book.(1-3/15p)

 

He looked back out the window.(1-3/13p)

 

The Pteranodon looked up at them.(1-3/15p)

 

*wind

-[waɪnd] 구불구불하다/ winding 구불구불한

There was a winding stream.(1-3/13p)

 

-[wɪnd] 바람 

And then the wind got loud. (1-3/14p)

철자가 같아도 쓰임에 따라 발음도 다릅니다. 

 

*stammer  말을 더듬다, (공포, 당황, 긴장 따위로 )말이 술술 나오지 않다

+) stutter (습관적, 선천적으로) 말을 더듬다

Wh-where are we? stammered Jack.(1-3/13p)

 

*coast 미끄러지다, 힘들이지 않고 하다 

The creature coasted to a stop.(1-3/13p) 쉽게 멈췄다, 수월하게 멈췄다.

+) Going uphill was pretty hard, but we coasted downhill. 

 

*drop 뛰어내리다  

*dropped to the ground (갑자기) 떨어지다, 훌쩍 뛰어내리다

Annie dropped to the ground.(1-3/17p)

 

*step up to …에 다가가다 

She stepped boldly up to the ancient creature.(1-3/17p)

+) Honey, step up to the monkey and give the banana.

 

[매직문장] 1권-4 Henry

• Don't count on it.
• Jack gasped as Annie held out her hand.
• I wonder how smart he is.
• Jack reached into his backpack and pulled out a pencil and a notebook.
• Don’t get too close to him.
• What in the world was she saying?
• She was always trying to make friends with animals.
• The creature fixed his eyes on Annie.
• It would be good to examine the creature.

 

*‘close’ 

1. 가까운 등의 의미일 때는 [s]

Don’t get too close to him, Annie!(1-4/18p)

Annie leaned close to the Pteranodon.(1-4/22p)

 

2. 닫다, 눈을 감다 등의 의미일 때는 [z] 

His long jaws were opening and closing.(1-4/22p) 

 

 ‘close’[s]/[z] 발음 차이 확인해 주세요.  문장 안에서 보면 이해가 더 잘 되실 거에요. 매트하 전반에 걸쳐 많이 나오는 단어이니 읽을 때 발음 신경 써주세요.

 

*brush 스치다, 스치듯 나아가다, 솔질하다, 닿다, 빗

He brushed his hand down the creature’s neck.(1-4/19p)

 

기존에 알고 있던 단어의 다양한 쓰임을 배우게 되어 좋아요. 

 

His brain's probably no bigger than a bean.(1-4/20p) 

잭이 Pteranodon 머리가 안좋을 거라고 이렇게 표현했어요. 

 

*reach into ~안에 손을 넣다

*pull out 빼다, 뽑다

Jack reached into his backpack and pulled out a pencil and a notebook. 

 

매트하의 매력은 바로 전치사 공부, 자연스럽게 구동사를 익힐 수 있어요. 

이 구문과 문장도 계속해서 나와요. 

*come to ~에 다다르다, ~에 이르다

Did we come to a time long ago, Henry?(1-4/22p)

come to 계속해서 나와요. 앞으로 문장에서 come to 보면 밑줄 쫙~ 같이해요. 

 

Don't count on it.(1-4/20p) 기대도 하지마, 꿈도 꾸지마.

 

*long time ago = long ago 오래 전에, 먼 옛날, 옛날에,오래 전에, 먼 옛날, 훨씬 이전에

Did we come to a time long ago, Henry?(1-4/22p)

Is this place from long ago?(1-4/23p)

우리가 아주 옛날로 온거니?

 

[매직문장] 1-5 Gold in the Grass

• Someone came here before us.
• She turned back to Jack.
• Promise you won't kiss him.
• Don’t you want to take notes about him?
• I will look it up.
• He flipped through the pages.
• He shoved the dinosaur book into his pack.

 

His brain's probably no bigger than a bean.(1-4/20p) 

머리가 안좋을 거라고 이렇게 표현했어요. 재밌쥬~

낭독하면서 자연스럽게 익힐 수 있어요. 

 

*tumble into ~ 굴러 들어가다

They tumbled into the tree house.(1-5/24p)

 

*give a push/ give a look/ give a smile…

He gave Annie a big push.(1-5/24p)

Pteranodon gave them a kind look.(1-5/27p)

 

읽을 때 이해되지만 입에서는 잘 안나오는 구문, 앞으로도 계속 나와요.  눈여겨 봐주세요~

 

익숙하지 않은 공룡이름들, 발음이 어려운 데 한국말 표기 괴리감도 꽤 크죠. 

한글로라도 옆에 써두세요~ 꿀팁입니다^^

*flip through (책장을) 휙휙 넘기다

He flipped through the pages.(1-5/25p)

 

*call up to ~에게 상기키시다, 생각해내다

He called up to Annie "Just promise you won't pet him."(1-5/26p)

 

*blow a kiss 손(시늉)으로 키스를 보내다

Annie blew a kiss at him.(1-5/27p)

 

*nudge 팔꿈치로 쿡 찌르다.

Annie nudged him.

Annie nudged him hard.(1-5/28p)

 

*be sticking out of (~에서) (툭) 튀어나오다, 밖으로 빠져나오다 

Half of a magnolia flower was sticking out of his mouth.(1-5/29p)

He noticed bookmarks were sticking out (of many of them).(1-2/7p)
