 [줍줍매직문장]은 매직트리하우스를 하루 한 챕터씩 소리내어 읽었던 주요 문장들을 머리 속에서 구체화시키는 작업입니다. 정확하고 좋은 영어문장을 자꾸 소리내어 읽어보고, 외워두어야 익숙해져서 영어를 써야 하는 상황에서 그 표현을 쓸 수 있습니다. 매일 하루 영어공부를 마감하면서 읽어보세요.

[줍줍매직문장] 19권-6  Swamp Creature

• He opened his eyes with a start.
• Mossy hanging vines swayed in the breeze.
• Annie was close to tears.
• I better take some note about that big guy.
• I better get teddy.
• He was surrounded by hazy sunlight.
• ”We found something terrible!”
• The rest of the herd followed in line.

 

*with a start 깜짝 놀라서

He opened his eyes with a start.(19-6/39p)

with a start 뜻이 ‘깜짝 놀라서’라니 깜짝 놀랐어유^^

 

*come out of one's dream 꿈에서 깨어나다

Jack slowly came out of his dream.(19-6/39p)

 

"How did you get down?"(19-6/40p)

 

*soaking wet 흠뻑 젖은, 완전히 다 젖은

She was barefoot and soaking wet.(19-6/40p)

 

Thanks for the ride.(19-6/41p) 

누가 차를 태워다 줬을 때 쓰면 좋은 말! 외웁시다요.

 

*안경에 뭔가 튀었을 때 spatter

His glasses were spattered.(19-6/41p) 

 

*rinse off = wash off soap or remaining dirt 헹구다

He rinsed off his glasses.(19-6/41p)

 

아침에 일어나 코뿔소를 보게 되는데 애들이 시력이 안좋군요. 동물들은 안경을 쓸수 없다는 것에 잭이 안타까움을 표현합니다.

They do not see well, the sometimes charge at things by mistake.(19-6/43p) 

Too bad animals can't wear glasses.(19-6/43p) 

 

*feel sorry for ~를 안쓰럽게[안됐다고] 여기다, 애처롭게 생각하다

Jack felt sorry for the rhinos.(19-6/43p) 

Jack felt sorry for Black Hawk.(18-8/52p)

 

밀렵꾼(poachers)들이 코뿔소들에게 만행을 저질렀군요. 이래저래 동물들에게 미안합니다. 

 

*be close to tears = be about to cry 울먹거리다

Annie was close to tears.(19-6/46p)

 

[줍줍매직문장] 19권-7 Trapped!

• He's worn out from struggling.
• If the killing does not end, they both face extinction.
• The trap will spring open.
• Extinction means that someday there may be no Indian tigers or rhinos left on earth.
• He must have gotten caught last night. that's the sad sound we heard.
• How did you drive away that tiger?
• Let’s see what the book says first.

1. 가까운 등의 의미일 때는 [s]

Teddy stayed close to them, whining.(19-7/47p)

As Jack got closer, he saw a tiger.(19-7/47p)

The langurs watched silently as Jack and Annie moved closer to the tiger.(19-7/49p)

 

2. 닫다, 눈을 감다 등의 의미일 때는 [z] 

His eyes were closed.(19-7/47p)

계속해서 나오는  ‘close’[s]/[z],  발음 차이 확인해 봅니다. 

 

*wear out from …으로 지치게 하다, 쇠약하게 하다

He's worn out from struggling.(19-7/48p)

 

*against …에 반대하여[맞서]

*위법 against the law

This is against the law.(19-7/48p)

 

*멸종위기 face extinction

If the killing does not end, they both face extinction.(19-7/49p) 

 

*majestic 장엄한, 위풍당당한 

He was the most majestic creature Jack had ever seen.(19-7/49p)

 

*well이 형용사로 쓰이면 healthy 건강한

"Get well."(19-7/50p)

쉽쥬~ 외웁시다~! Get well.

 

[줍줍매직문장] 19권-8 Wonder Dog

• Now she sounded worried.
• The water shimmered in the early light.
• We come in peace. 
• The growls grew louder and louder.
• Teddy was just like a small scruffy dog again.
• She and Jack grabbed their things off the rock.
• How did you drive away that tiger?
• The tiger was limping away
• I wonder where the tree house is.

 

*sound 생각되다, --처럼 보이다 --인 것 같다 

Now she sounded worried.(19-8/55p) 

 

쉬운 듯 어려운 문장같죠. 오늘 그냥 외웁시다~!

‘Now she sounded worried.’

 

* stand tall 자신만만해[당당해] 보이다

Teddy stood tall and brave in the grass.(19-8/55p) 

 stand tall and brave 기억해 둡시다요. 

 

*limp away 절름거리며 떠나가다

 The tiger was limping away.(19-8/55p) 

 

*drive away 떠나다, 쫓아버리다

How did you drive away that tiger?(19-8/56p) 

 

그리고 랑구르 원숭이들이 손짓하는 곳으로 가니 한 남자가 가부좌를 하고 눈을 감고 앉아있어요. 

 

*bend 모퉁이, 굽은 곳, 급커브

When they went around the bend, they saw a man sitting cross-legged on a rock.(19-8/57p) 

They ran around a bend in the river.(11-5/30p)

 

[줍줍매직문장] 19권-9 The Hermit

• Jack felt a wave of calm wash over him.
• Its beauty cannot live without its ugliness.
• Our world would not be complete without him.
• We like to be alone to think. I live in the forest so I can learn from nature.
• Hermits live far away from other people.

 

*visit with somebody ~와 함께 시간을 보내다

Would you like to visit with me?(19-10/60p) 

-매너있는 표현같죠. 우리 외웁시다~! 

 

*change the subject  화제를 바꾸다

Jack wondered why the hermit was changing the subject.(19-10/62p) 

 

*come up (땅을 뚫고) 나오다,

*root and all 뿌리째, 몽땅 

It came up, muddy root and all.(19-10/62p) 

 

*wash over somebody (거세게) 밀려오다[엄습하다]

Jack felt a wave of calm wash over him.(19-10/66p)  

 

18권 great spirit에 이어 great voice 

The one great voice of the forest.(19-10/62p) 숲속의 위대한 목소리

 

*오늘의 명문장

Its beauty cannot live without its ugliness.(19-10/64p)

[줍줍매직문장] 19-10 Who Are You, Really?

• Teddy's eyes twinkled, as if they held many secrets.
• The one great voice of the forest told him.
• All the sounds were like one great voice-the one great voice of home.
• How did you know Teddy wanted us to hide behind that rock?

 

*tilt one’s head 고개를 갸우뚱하다

The little dog tilted his head.(19-10/70p)  테디 넘 귀여워요. 

 

*hold secrets 비밀을 가지고 있다 

Teddy's eyes twinkled, as if they held many secrets.(19-10/70p)

 

*as if to say ~라고 하는 듯이

Teddy sneezed, as if to say, Of course!(19-10/70p) 

Teddy barked, as if to say Let’s go!(18-9/67p) 

 

계속해서 나오는 as if to say~ 테디가 마치 사람처럼 말하는 것을 표현할 때 나와요.

 

*the last bit of daylight 마지막 빛 줄기

*slip away 사라지다[없어지다/ 죽다]

As they walked to their house, the last bit of daylight was slipping away.(19-10/71p) 

 

*woodpecker 딱따구리 

*peck 쪼다

He heard a woodpecker pecking.(19-10/72p)
