매직트리하우스 11권 영어노트 매직문장 챕터 6-10

 매직트리하우스 11권 Lions at Lunchtime 6장부터 10장까지 매직낭독 2기팀의 매직문장입니다. 매직낭독을 하면서 좀더 효율적인 영어 공부가 될 수 있도록 공동 영어공부 노트 [매직문장]을 만들어 가고 있습니다. 하루 한 챕터씩 매직트리하우스를 10번씩 읽으면서 자신이 외우고 싶거나 좋다고 생각되는 문장을 뽑아 정리해 나가고 있습니다. 

 

 [매직문장]은 매직트리하우스를 하루 한 챕터씩 소리 내어 읽었던 주요 문장들을 머리 속에서 구체화시키는 작업입니다. 좋은 문장을 소리 내어 읽음으로써 영어의 소리(발성, 발음 등)를 배워나가고, 영어식 사고와 영어 어순에 익숙해지는 효과가 있습니다.  영어문장 구조에 익숙해져야 영어문장도 잘 외워지고, 스피킹도 잘할 수 있습니다. 그런 이유로 정확하고 좋은 영어문장을 자꾸 소리내어 읽어서 익숙해지는 연습을 해 두면 좋습니다. 매일 하루 영어공부를 마무리하면서 한 번이라도 읽고 녹음하면 훨씬 더 효과가 있습니다.

 

"영어 공부는 자전거 타기랑 같아.

무섭고 마음이 급해서 바닥을 보면 못 타.

가고 싶은 방향을 멀리보고 페달을 밟는 거야.

바람이 상쾌하고 기분이 좋으면~

자전거는 쓩쓩~

나는 어느새 레이서!"

 

 영어 공부, 자전거 타기 뿐 아니라 세상의 모든 일들이 많이들 닮아있죠. 마음 급하게 먹는다고 되는 게 아니고, 시간과 노력이 필요하다는 것이 진리입니다.

[매직문장] 11권-6 Spick-and-Span

• He was tired of Annie getting sidetracked.
• A spray of water rained down on him.
• You are driving me crazy today.

*dip 동사로 '~을 살짝 담그다' 

dipping sauce 디핑소스도 생각나죠. 

7권에서는 명사로 '움푹 파인 곳' 의 의미로 사용되었어요. 

 

It waded into the pond and dipped its trunk into the water.(11-6/33p)

 

He nestled behind Annie, in the dip between the mammoth's head and huge curved back.(7-7/51p)

 

*get sidetracked (주제, 본론에서) 벗어나다, 딴 길로 새다

 

He was tired of Annie getting sidetracked.(11-6/34p)

 

+)I got sidetracked. 얘기가 딴 길로 샜네요. 

 

flit 훨훨 날아다니다 

twitter 지저귀다 

flutter 펄럭이다, 파닥이다, 흔들리다

 

*rain down 비처럼 내리다

 

A spray of water rained down on him.(11-6/35p)

 

*run into (나쁜상태로) 빠지다

 

We can leave this place.. before we run into real trouble.(11-6/37p)

 

사건사고가 많았던 하루, 

잭이 한 마디 합니다. 

“You are driving me crazy today.”(11-6/38p)

 

우리도 한 마디 해 봅니다. 

모르는 단어가 이렇게나 많을 줄이야;;

 

A lot of new words were driving us crazy.

 

애니는 참 바쁩니다. 진흙에서 겨우 빠져나와 코끼리 샤워하고, 이제는 새를 따라갑니다. 한 오지랖합니다. 

The bird headed into the forest. Annie started after it.(11-6/39p)

[매직문장] 11권-7 Hi, There

• And she wants us to be her helpers.
• The hive fell to the ground and broke open.
• Jack knew at once what he was.
• But to get it, you have to go past a lot of dangerous bees.

11-7/40p 시작부터 

아름다운 자연을 묘사하는 표현이 쏟아져 나옵니다. 

 

It was filled with shadows and bird calls.

 

Bright rays streamed between the trees.

 

Green leaves and vines swayed in the dappled light.

 

The little gray bird sat in a tree, twittering at them.

 

*glade : a small area of grass without trees in a wood

 

*clearing: an area in a wood or forest from which trees and bushes have been removed

 

He found her in a thick glade.(11-7/40p)

 

Jack saw a clearing ahead.(6-4/24p)

 

glade 숲속에 나무가 없는 작은 풀밭 

clearing 나무가 베어져 없는 숲속 빈터

비슷하게 사용해도 될 듯해요.  

 

as ~as 구문을 이용해 ‘너처럼 미쳤나봐’라고 잭이 얘기해요. 현실남매 인증합니다. 

 

"Maybe she's as nuts as you."(11-7/41p)

잭이 그동안 속상하고 쌓인 게 많았던 듯 싶어요.

 

*동사 + 형용사의 형태로 

break open/ slide open 문장구조 눈여겨 봐주세요.

The hive hell to the ground and broke open.(11-7/45p)

 

It slid open.(8-8/53p)

+) The doors slid open. 

문이 미끄러져 열렸다. 

+) The lock snapped shut. 

자물쇠가 툭하고 닫혔다.

 

*lick off …을 핥아 먹다[없애다] 

lick이 전치사 off를 만나 꿀을 야무지게 핥아먹는 모습을 표현해줘요. 

 

He licked off the gilded honey.(11-7/45p)

 

[매직문장] 11권-8 Yum

• Jack's heart gave a jump.
• Jack screwed the lid back on the peanut butter jar.
• The warrior was as still as a statue.
• We don't have anything to spread it with.
• She bit into her sandwich.
• So there they are.

 

*The warrior narrowed his eyes.(11-8/48p) 

 

narrowed his eyes

squinted his eyes

squeeze his eyes

묶어서 정리해 봅니다. 

 

*trespass ​​무단침입 하다

-[break law] to go onto someone's land or enter their building without permission

 

I'm sorry we were trespassing.(11-8/49p) 

 

 “We come in peace.”

달에 다녀온 이후로 자주 나오는 표현이쥬~   

 

*도구의 전치사 with 

"We don't have anything to spread it with."(11-8/50p)  

 

맨 뒤에 붙은 전치사들은 놓치기 쉬워요. 

something to write with (쓸 도구)

something to write on (쓸 종이)

something to write about (쓸 내용)

 

*put~ together로 쉽게 표현하고 있어요. 

Jack and Annie put their pieces of bread together.(11-8/50p) 

 

*bite into 자국을 내다

bite과 전치사 into가 만나니 한 입 덥썩 베어 문 느낌이 생생히 전달되고 뜻이 명확해집니다. 매트하를 읽으며 전치사의 쓰임을 많이 배울 수 있는 좋아요.   

She bit into her sandwich.(11-8/52p)  

 

* "..." Annie said, ~ing 

...하면서 애니가 말했다

 

현재분사 사용 구문이 많이 보여요. 

"..." Annie said, watching the warrior.(11-8/49p)  

"..." Annie said, handing the sandwich to the warrior.(11-8/50p)  

"..." Annie shouted, waving back.(11-8/54p)  

"..." Annie said, smiling.(11-8/58p)  

 

Part of him wanted to follow the silent warrior through the shadowy forest.(11-8/53p)  

 

재미있는 표현이죠, 아마 애니라면 그냥 따라갔을 듯 싶어요.

 

[매직문장] 11권-9 Tiptoe

• The lion's gaze rested on him.
• Jack felt the hair rise on the back of his neck.
• What if we wait till they leave?
• Now you’re the one who’s nuts.

 

 

사자 lion, 암사자 lioness

호랑이 tiger, 암호랑이 tigress

 

cub (곰, 사자, 여우 등의) 새끼 

calf(소, 호랑이, 기린 등의) 새끼 

 

*a pride of lions 사자들의 무리

pride가 ‘떼, 무리’의 의미도 있어요.

 

After a pride of lions has eaten, they rest for a few hours. (11-9/58p)  

They got closer and closer to the tree house-and closer and closer to the pride of lions.(11-9/63p) 

 

*break in 끼어들다

Annie broke in.(11-9/58p)  

 

*take hours 시간이 걸리다

That could take hours.(11-9/59p)

 

*stir 움직이다

 -[move] to cause something to move slightly

+) He stirred in his sleep as I kissed him.

+) The alarm clock went off, but she didn't stir.

 

The big lion stirred lazily.(11-9/61p) 

 

‘stir는 '휘젓다'라는 의미로만 생각했었는데 매직북에서 그동안 한정된 뜻으로 알고있던 단어들의 다양한 쓰임을 배워요. 

 

*hair rise on the back 

*chill went through 

 머리털이 곤두서고, 

등골이 오싹해집니다. 

 

Jack felt the hair rise on the back of his neck.(11-9/61p) 

 A chill went through Jack.(10-6/43p)

 

*rest on 시선이 머문다

The lion's gaze rested on him. (11-9/62p) 

 

rest란 단어가 ‘시선이 머문다’로 쓰이니 시적으로 느껴져요. rest on은 뒤에도 계속 나와요. 

 

잭의 다급함을 보여주는 문장

Jack climbed faster than he’d ever climbed.(11-9/64p)

 

*in one's place 대신에

In its place was one shimmering word: HONEY(11-9/66p)

 

‘in one's place 대신에’ 자주 나오는 표현인데 입에서 잘 나오지 않아요. 오늘 입에 많이 붙여봅시다요~ 

 

 

[매직문장] 11-10 After Lunch

• Jack took another moment to calm down.
• And we scared off two hyenas.
• Because we didn't want him to be mad at us for taking his honey.

 

 

*ring in one’s ears 귀에 쟁쟁하다

Hyena laughter still rang in his ears.(11-10/67p) 

 

+) “한 귀로 듣고 한 귀로 흘린다”

 In one ear and out the other.

 

*scare somebody off 겁을 주어 ~를 쫓아 버리다

전치사 off로 겁줘서 쫓아버린 느낌이 강조해줘요.

-to accidentally make someone afraid of or nervous about something they are planning to do

We scared off two hyenas.(11-10/69p)
