They emulate their peer group.

We think that's where language change from generation to generation really takes hold.
Does that mean that the Southern accent is doomed?

It's not stigmatized like it used to be.

New research from the University of Georgia shows that the Southern accent is fading. NPR's Ayesha Rascoe asks linguistics professor Margaret Renwick about the trend.
