매직트리하우스 18권 줄거리 영어구문정리와 문장해석 1(챕터 1-5)

 [줍줍매직문장]은 매직트리하우스를 하루 한 챕터씩 소리 내어 읽었던 주요 문장들을 머리 속에서 구체화시키는 작업입니다. 좋은 문장을 소리 내어 읽음으로써 영어의 소리(발성, 발음 등)를 배워나가고, 영어식 사고와 영어 어순에 익숙해지는 효과가 있습니다.  영어문장 구조에 익숙해져야 영어문장도 잘 외워지고, 스피킹도 잘할 수 있습니다. 그런 이유로 정확하고 좋은 영어문장을 자꾸 소리내어 읽어서 익숙해지는 연습을 해 두면 좋습니다. 

 

힘과 자신감을 찾아 항상 바깥으로 눈을 돌리지만

자신감이란 내면에서 나오는 것이다.

 

[줍줍매직문장] 18권-1 Teddy’s Back!

• Teddy's barking brought Jack back from his memories.
• The sooner we free Teddy, the better.
• Breakfast will be ready soon, and grandmother will be here any minute.
• It was time for their second mission to help free the little dog from a spell.

 

-엄마들에게 유용한 생활영어-

타이타닉호가 침몰한 바로 그 시간  2:20, 생각하면 너무 마음이 아프지요.

The time on the watch was 2:20.(18-1/7p)

 

*bring someone back from one's memories 

생각에 잠겨있다가 정신차릴 때

Teddy's barking brought Jack back from his memories.(18-1/8p)

 

*The sooner~, the better

the 비교급, the 비교급 구문: ~하면 할 수록

The more, the better. 

The more you learn, the happier you are.

외워두면 유용한 표현, 외웁시다요~ 

 

[줍줍매직문장] 18권-2 Ocean of Grass

• We could walk for months and never see anything but grass.
• How are we supposed to get it?
• Their jeans and T-shirts had magically changed.
• He kept going through the tall, rippling grass.

 

바람이 늘 이렇게 불면 좋겠다는요. 

Wind rattled the leaves.(18-1/6p)

 WInd whispered through the tall yellow grass.(18-2/11p)

 

 *grow ~er/ get ~er 

앞으로 이 구문 나오면 밑줄 쫙~ 

The sky was growing bluer as they watched.(18-2/11p)

 

저는 이 문장보고 예전 중부 옥수수밭에 살던 시절이 떠올랐어요. 가도가도 끝이 없는 옥수수밭, 지평선을 볼 수 있는 곳이에요. 잭의 심정이 이해되었다는요. 

When he stepped onto the ground, the grass came all the way up to his chest. It tickled his nose.(18-2/13p)

 

-비슷해서 헷갈리는 단어 

*farther <물리적 거리> 더 멀리

-)far-farther-farthest 

 

*further <시간 정도 거리 수량> 더 멀리에, 더 나아가, 게다가

-)far-further-furthest

 

I can go no farther/further. 

나는 더 이상 갈 수가 없다.

 

The issue needs further examination. 

그 사안은 더 많은 검토가 필요하다.

 

farther는  <물리적 거리>에만 사용되고, further가  <시간 정도 거리 수량>를 나타내어 더 많이 사용됩니다요. 우리에게 둘다 알려주시려고 매직작가님은 둘 다 사용하고 계세요.

 

 

[줍줍매직문장] 18권-3 Black Hawk

• All eyes were turned to Jack and Annie.
• Good manners to the Lakota mean speaking as few words as possible and sharing gifts when visiting.
• He couldn't have been more than ten or eleven.
• No talking, no fear, no problem
• They lost both their land and their old way of life.

 

 

아메리칸 인디언, 백인의 침략... 

푸른 초원에서의 선물을 받아야 하는 18권의 내용이 그리 즐겁지만은 않을 것 같은 예감이 들어요. I have a bad feeling about this. 

 

* have a feeling ~한 예감이 들다, ...한 느낌을 갖다

 He had a feeling Annie was right.(17-1/5p)  

애니가 옳았다는 예감이 들었다.

 

*have a  bad feeling 예감이 안좋다, 불길한 기분이 들다

I have a bad feeling about this. 

 

They lost both their land and their old way of life.(18-3/18p) 

라코다족이 백인 개척자와의 싸움에서 지면서 땅도 잃고, old way of life를 잃어버린 건 더 슬프게 다가오네요. 

 

- 나이 표현하기-

*more than …이상(의), …보다 많이

He couldn't have been more than ten or eleven.(18-3/19p)

 

He looked about four years old.(17-5/37p) 

 

*look to be ~인 것 같다

She looked to be about twelve or thirteen years old.(17-5/38p)

 

잭한테 전수받았는지 애니도 한 정리합니다~ 

It’s good manners to be quiet. And we should give gifts and not show fear. 

Also, holding up two fingers means 'friend.’(18-3/22p)

 

No talking, no fear, no problem.(18-3/23p) 

 

라코타족 사람들의 모든 시선이 무섭기도 했을 듯요.

재빠르게 대처하는 잭이랑 애니, 넘 귀엽쥬~ 

 

*holding up two fingers는 한 손을 들고 두 손가락 붙여드는 모습이요.

64p 그림에서 확실히 볼 수 있어요. 

 

[줍줍매직문장] 18권-4 Good Manners

• She walked tall and straight.
• The bear claws will give her the strength of the bear
• Grandmother's laughter and kind face reminded Jack of his own grandmother.
• All will give her the power of the animals.

 

Jack wondered how to appear brave. 

잭은 용감하게 보일 방법을 궁리했다. 

 

*tall 의기양양하게, 과장하여

*walk tall 자부심을 느끼다, 뻐기다, 스스로 긍지를 갖다

She walked tall and straight.

 

walk tall에서 tall이 형용사로 쓰였는데  walk tall이 ‘자부심을 느끼다’ 뜻도 있어요. 이렇게 walk 이나 tall 처럼 본래 잘 알려진 뜻말고 다르게 나오면 당황스러워요. 

 

She walked tall and straight. 

Her chin was up. 

Jack straightened his shoulders. He lifted his chin, and he felt braver.(18-4/24p) 

두렵지 않은 척 애쓰는 아이들 모습이 귀엽게 느껴져요. 

 

*remind of ..을 생각나게 하다, 연상시키다

자주 나오는 구문이쥬~ 

remind of 해봅니다요^^

 

Grandmother's laughter and kind face reminded Jack of his own grandmother.(18-4/26p)

That reminds me of the seal hunter in the Arctic.(18-4/30p)

 

*간단한데 사용하기 어려운 

make a list/ finish a list

[줍줍매직문장] 18-5 Sunlight and Midnight

• Lakota never take more buffalo than we need.
• Before then were thousands and thousands of grazing buffalo.

 

*hind[haɪnd] legs 뒷다리

*stand up on its hind legs 뒷다리로 서다

 

Suddenly the wolf stood up on its hind legs!(18-4/31p) 

 

기존에 알고 있던 단어들의 다양한 의미를 배우게 되고요. 

*hide(=skin) 가죽,피혁

 The fierce wolf was Black Hawk wearing a wolf’s hide!(18-4/31p) 

 

이 말이 참 멋지게 느껴졌어요. 

필요한 만큼 사냥한다!

 “Only show”, said grandmother. “Do not hunt. We have enough meat today.” 

“Lakota never take more buffalo than we need.”(18-4/32p)

 

*sling one's leg over 

다리를 걸치다

She slung her leg over the pony's back.(18-4/33p)

 Then he slung his leg over the pony’s back.(18-4/34p)

 

또 나왔쥬~ 

*let out (울음소리, 신음소리 등을) 내다

*let out a wild whoop 요란한 함성을 지르다

 

Black Hawk let out a wild whoop and took off, too.(18-4/34p)

 He let out a wild whoop, and Sunlight took off like the wind.(18-4/35p)

 

* hop on one foot 한 발로 뛰다

He hopped on one foot.(18-4/34p)
