Magic Tree House #2] CH 1 The Dark Woods

  • What if someone was in the tree house?
  • What if he or she didn't want kids to know about the tree house?
  • She tiptoed away as quietly as a mouse.
  • The stuff we know for sure.
  • Who was going to believe any of this.
  • He crept downstairs.
  • Cut it out!
  • Now he was trying to figure them out.
  • Annie took it off her belt.
  • Crickets were chirping.
  • Animals always seemed to do what Annie said.
  • The sun's not even up yet.
  • The dog next door barked.

[Magic Tree House #2] CH 2 Leaving Again

  • I know what you're thinking.
  • How could anyone forget seeing a real live Tyrannosaurus rex?
  • She yanked the book away from him.
  • Dawn was starting to break.
  • She scooted down the ladder.
  • He shivered.
  • The wind began to moan.
  • He sort of wanted to take a peek himself.
  • And headed down into the cool, misty air.
  • It was the book that had taken them to the time of the dinosaurs.
  • That was the picture that had brought them home.
  • A huge castle loomed out of the fog.
  • The air was damp and cool.
  • We wish we could see this guy for real.
  • Jack shuttered.
  • Annie shined her flashlight on the books scattered about the floor.

[Magic Tree House #2] CH 3 Across the Bridge

  • I want to see what's really going on.
  • A piercing shriek split the air.
  • It showed boys his age carrying trays of food.
  • Then she vanished through the gate leading to the castle.
  • A drawbridge crossed the moat.
  • Hawks were trained to hunt other birds and small animals.
  • It sounded like it came from that little house over there.
  • Some people believe crocodiles were kept in the moat.
  • A helmet alone could weigh up to forty pounds.
  • So, it'd be like riding a horse with a five-year-old on your head.
  • I want to see what's really going on, Jack.
  • Not what's in the book.
  • The moat was filled with water, to help protect the castle from enemies.

[Magic Tree House #2] CH 4 Into the Castle

  • Then they ran as fast as they could down a dimly lit hallway.
  • Jack hurried to a dark corner and crouched down.
  • He held his breath as he stared in awe.
  • He waited till the boys and horses disappeared inside the stable.
  • The wooden planks creaked under his feet.
  • I wonder which one is the knight.
  • It must be night.
  • The courtyard was nearly empty.
  • Antlers and lugs hung on the stone walls.

[Magic Tree House #2] CH 5 Trapped

  • I got to check on something first.
  • Jack lay on the floor in the dark.
  • The visor slammed shut.
  • He struggled to get the helmet off.
  • Annie's voice sounded far away.
  • Were they being followed?
  • Not only could Jack not lift his head, he couldn't see anything, either.
  • Annie flicked off the light.
  • “The voices are getting closer!”
  • He was staring into the blazing light of a fiery torch.
  • He was starting into the fiery light of a torch.
