She looks down at ther empty hands, so delicate and fragile. She's lost so much weight. There's not much of her left.(35-241p)

Listening to her talk, I realize there is so much of the world that I don't know. So much of my history, and so much of me. But I will learn it.(35-241p)

Tigers speak in tricky ways.(35-243p)

*wince (고통 따위로) 찡그리다, 얼굴을 찡그리다
Halmoni winces, like our conversation physically pains her.(35-244p)

 

 

Chapter  36

How can I fight so hard if she has already given up?(36-245p)

Sam snuck out again tonight.(36-245p)

*thump 치다[두드리다], 쿵[탁] 하고 떨어지다

My heart thumps in my chest. And the walls around me seem to thump as well-(36-245p)

The thumping around me gets louder, coming from the window now. I realize tht the thumping was her, climbing up the rope.(36-246p)

*dump 버리다,  (~에게) 떠넘기다

She slings her backpack off her shoulders, dumping it onto the floor. It's not sipped properly, and a plastic bag slides out.(36-246p)

How dare she act so careless when I care so much?(36-247p)

*shriek 비명을 지르다, 고함치다

She shrieks.(36-247p)

*bottle up (감정이나 불만 따위가) 억누르다, 억제하다

It's all too much to keep bottled up inside me.(36-247p)

And hiding it doesn't erase the past - it only bottles it up.(36-241p)

*possessed [pəˈzest] 홀린

It's like I am possessed. I am out of control.(36-247p)

Chapter  37

*back in 예전에, 그때에
*astronomy 천문학 

*supernova 초신성(보통 신성보다 1만 배 이상의 빛을 내는 신성)

Back in fifth grade, during our astronomy unit, we learned about stasrs and galaxies and black holes. But my favorite thing was the supernova- a star exploding, bigger than we could ever imagine.(37-249p)

*infinite 무한한, 끝없는

*contain (감정을) 억누르다[참다], [억제하다], …이 들어[함유되어] 있다

I can't contain myself.(37-249p)

Her annoyance with Sam rarely bleeds onto me, but after driving for eight hours, Mom can't contain it.(1-5p)

*withered [|wɪðərd] 시들어진, 말라든, 메마른, 여위고 약한[쇠약한]

She looks pale, as withered as dried mugwort, and she shakes, unsteady on her feet.(37-250p)

 

Chapter  38

*fumble (무엇을 하거나 찾느라고 손으로) 더듬거리다, (말을) 더듬거리다

Sam fumbles in her pocket, hands shaking as she passes the phone to Mom.(38-251p)

In the parking lot, Mom fumbles with the car door handle before thunking her head against the window.(23-166p)

I fumble for the light switch, which apparently doesn't work, so I go by the moonlight that spills in through a thin window at the top of the wall.(6-42p)

*heap 더미, 무더기

I stand, staring at the Halmoni-heap, watching Sam check her pulse.(38-251p)

*fall apart 무너지다, 망가지다, 산산이 부서지다

The moment when everything really falls apart-it's not during the big explosion.(38-251p)

*more of 더 많은

*crumble 허물어지다[무너지다], 바스러지다, 바스러뜨리다

It's more of a crumbling.(38-251p)

*there's nothing but 단지 ~만 남다

She recites Halmoni's address and says, Yes, yes, yes, please, Please.

Sam and I are left with silence.(38-253p)

*knock on wood (불길함을 떨치기 위해) 나무 막대기 등을 두드리며 주문을 외다

I didn't knock on wood.(38-253p)

My heart stammers, and I push the covers back. "Take it back," I say. "Knock on wood."(33-226p)

She's been helping me.(38-254p)

All this was happening and i had no idea.(38-254p)

I know Sam's as scard as I am.(38-254p)
