The Nobel Lit prize is often criticized for being too Western and too male.

Han Kang won "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life." Her novel "The Vegetarian" won the International Booker Prize in 2016.

2. Climate
They came to Asheville looking for a 'climate haven.' Then came Hurricane Helene

And Colorado and Oregon were prone to wildfires.
Many people have moved to Asheville looking for a climate haven.
They moved to Asheville four years ago after living through several wildfires in her native California.
She says she finds the idea of climate havens concerning.
She says that's less the case now.
People are looking for places that they can feel safe. And that's a very human response to something that's quite scary.

She says you can't outrun climate change.

No one is insulated from climate change, and this really drove home that point.
