Networking can be awkward. Here's how to make it work for you

 

*inclusivity 포용성, 포괄성

Inclusivity is a big part of this conversation.

Let me be clear on that.

I was jazzed about it.

It drains so much of your emotional and your mental battery, meeting all of these people.

The effort up front before you leave the house of doing that kind of planning and strategy work is what will make it more successful.

It's about being thoughtful about what you're trying to achieve in that moment.

Jot yourself a little note.

*follow-up 후속 조치, 사후 조치

*follow through 약속을 지키다, 끝까지 해내다, 계획대로 실행하다

You're much more likely to follow through.

+) If you say you'll do something, you should follow through.

     만약 무언가를 하겠다고 말했다면, 약속을 지켜야 합니다.

+) She started a new diet, but she didn't follow through.

    그녀는 새로운 다이어트를 시작했지만, 끝까지 해내지 못했습니다.

+) We made a plan, and we're going to follow through with it.

    우리는 계획을 세웠고, 그대로 실행할 것입니다.

Meeting you one time isn't going to lead to anything.

It's if we make a commitment to talk - that's when we're developing a real relationship.

*inherent 내재하는, 고유의, 본래의, 천성적인

There can be inherent power imbalances when we're talking about networking.

*stand in one’s power 자신의 힘을 잃지 않고 굳건히 서 있다

*let ~ slide 어떤 것을 용인하거나 넘어가다

You might feel like you need to let certain behaviors or attitudes slide when you're first meeting somebody.

*live up to one's values 자신의 가치관에 맞춰 행동하다, -에 부끄럽지않게 살다, 부응하다

How can you stand in your power and live up to your values?

*inevitably 필연적이다시피, 아니나 다를까

*mantra 좌우명

*have blinders on 시야가 좁다

If you mind your own business all the time and have blinders on, you'll miss opportunities when they are right in front of you.

+) It's obvious you have blinders on.

     분명 너는 콩깍지가 씌였어.

*serendipity 우연히 찾아온 기회나 행운, 뜻밖의 재미[기쁨]

I really do believe that serendipity is more likely to happen if you know what you're looking for.

It feels like serendipity.

I really think, in a lot of ways, luck is good advanced planning.

*strive to find ~을 찾으려고 노력하다

*serendipitous [|serən│dɪpətəs] 뜻하지 않은 발견을 할 능력이 있는(으로 얻어진)

I really strive to find those really lucky, serendipitous moments in my life, but I also put some effort into helping them happen.
