HOW TO THRIVE AS YOU AGE

Millions of women are 'under-muscled.' These foods help build strength

*prevalence [ prévələns(i) 널리 퍼짐, 유행(commonness)

U.S. health officials have launched an awareness campaign to highlight the prevalence.

How to thrive as you age?

Loss of muscle I might have.

Tell us more about what this is exactly.

*muscle mass 근육량

It really peaks in our 30s, and then after that, you start to lose it.

This can really accelerate later in life, which can be a big deal.

This really hit home for me this summer when my mother took a bad tumble.

We don't have to use that as much anymore as we once did.

He told me loss of muscle strength is really underappreciated.

There's also another important part of the equation, too

If you don't consume enough, you can end up with deficiencies.

Adequate protein intake in midlife, especially from plant protein, is linked to significantly higher odds of healthy aging.

So that's more validation that protein does matter.

Greek yogurt is my go-to for breakfast because it's packed with protein.

Yeah, it sounds that way.

*be steered to ~로 몰리다, 쏠리다

Young women may be steered to salads, so part of it could be cultural.

(=ward off, resist, defend.)

Women certainly can continue to fend off muscle loss and stay strong.

I have swapped this for resistance training three times a week.

1. Amp up your morning bowl of Greek yogurt

2. Eggs are an easy way to get protein on the go

3. Power up your smoothies with powdered protein

4. Add some tuna to your salad

5. Sprinkle in protein with nuts and seeds

6. Meat in small doses adds a protein punch

7. Tasty ways to eat tofu and beans

8. Don't miss out higher-protein grains

9. Don't forget veggies

We start to lose muscle in our 30s, and the loss accelerates with age, putting us at risk of frailty later in life. But what you eat — specifically how much protein — is a big part of the solution.
