A Long Walk to Water: Day 1(챕터 1:1-7p)

 

 먹을 물이 부족한 아프리카에서 아이들이 물 길러 가는 장면을 한번쯤은 TV에서 스쳐지나가듯 본 기억이 있을 거에요. 어느 예능 프로에서는 아프리카에 우물 만들어주는 프로젝트를 하기도 했고요. 아프리카, 전쟁, 물부족, 약탈, 난민 캠프... 뭐든 풍족한 현대를 사는 우리들에게는 멀고 멀게만 느껴지는 이야기들에 함께 관심을 가져 볼까요. 

 

A Long Walk to Water(우물파는 아이들)은 실화를 바탕으로 써진 이야기라 아이들뿐 아니라 어른이 읽기에도 충분히 흥미롭고 진지한 내용을 담고 있습니다. 다른 원서들에 비해 부담없는 분량으로 리딩레벨이 현지 초등학교 4, 5학년 정도라 비교적 읽기도 수월합니다. 쉬운 단어로 쓰여졌음에도 실전 영어 실력 향상을 위해 좋은 구문과 문장들로 구성되어 있습니다. 영어학습자로서 영어원서가 쉬우면 쉬운대로 또 장점이 있습니다. 매직트리하우스 다음으로 읽기에 딱 알맞은 책입니다. 

This book is quite a page-turner!!

 

한번 손에 잡으면 놓을 수 없는 책이지만 매직북클럽에서 하루 한 챕터씩 아껴가며 읽고, 오디오북 들으며 3월 한 달간 흠뻑 빠져봅시다. 

적은 분량이니 꼼꼼하게 리딩과 리스닝 동시에 잘 챙겨봅니다.

The boyss would challenge each other to see who could make the most and best cows.

Other times they would practice with their bows and arrows, shooting at small animals or birds.(3p)

But the people in the south were of different religions and did not want to be forced to practice lslam.(6p)

Salva did not understand much about it, but he knew that rebels from the southern part of Sudan, where he and his family lived, were fighting against the government, which was based in the north.(6p)
