Treasury Sec. Janet Yellen says the U.S. economy is growing within the ideal range

 

The  latest numbers showed the gross domestic product is growing faster than expected.

I will point out it's an election year.

*outlook (앞날에 대한) 전망

It shows that the U.S. outlook remains solid. 

*at a solid pace 꿋꿋이

We saw consumer spending continue at a solid pace. 

And all of that is good news in the context where inflation is coming down.

*in an absolute sense 절대로

The job market has softened a little bit but remains, in an absolute sense, very strong.

*What can be done about ~? ~에 대해 어떻게 할 수 있을까요?(문제 상황에 대한 해결책을 묻는 표현)

What can be done about high costs when, obviously, people are making a lot of money off it, and money that is helping other figures?

I think there's a lot that can be done to bring down the cost of housing.

*make money off (특정한 것으로부터) 돈을 벌다

+) Many companies make a lot of money off advertising. 

    많은 회사들이 광고로 많은 돈을 번다.

*initiative (특정한 문제 해결·목적 달성을 위한 새로운) 계획

And that would be by undertaking initiatives to raise the supply of housing. 

*at the disposal of 자유로이 사용하게

We're using every tool at the disposal of the administration to make a difference to promote housing.

I gather Brazil has proposed a tax on billionaires.

+) I gather (that) you wanted to see me.

*carry over (다른 상황에서 계속) 이어지다, 이월되다

Their accumulated wealth, the assets they carry over year to year. 

+) The balance will be carried over to next year. 

    잔액은 내년으로 이월됩니다. 

*imposed on ~에 부과된

*progressive  진보적인, 점진적인, 꾸준히 진행되는

*progressive taxation 누진과세

This is the basic underlying idea.

*be in favor of …에 찬성[지지]하다, …에 이익이 되게 하다

*international negotiation 국제협상 

We're not in favor of an international negotiation to achieve that.

+) I'm not in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act. 

      저는 결혼보호법에 찬성하지 않습니다.

+) I am in favor of your proposed changes. 

     당신이 제안한 변경 사항들에 찬성합니다.

It is appropriate to make the wealthy pay their fair share.
